THE A.N.G.L.E. INTERNSHIP 2010
An eight week intern program geographically limited to Southern California – for undergraduate students on summer break or 2010 graduates.
A.N.G.L.E.- Access Now for Gay and Lesbian Equality - has been an active institution operating at the local, state and national level of politics since 1989. It has influenced elections at every level, has pushed issues of concern to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities and has been in the forefront of the public policy battles surrounding HIV/AIDS and civil rights.
The organization is known for raising millions of dollars for LGBT and pro-LGBT candidates and for requiring candidates who support LGBT issues and received support from A.N.G.L.E. to publicly acknowledge that their electoral success was due in part to the support of A.N.G.L.E. and the greater LGBT community.
The Opportunity
An expertise in fundraising has long set A.N.G.L.E. apart from other LGBT organizations. Indeed, fundraising is A.N.G.L.E.’s primary mission. In order to help cultivate fundraising expertise in a new generation of LGBT leaders, A.N.G.L.E. has funded an eight week paid intern program specifically designed to introduce meritorious, entrepreneurial, socially conscious college students to the various aspects of organizational operations. Coming from a pool of highly qualified applicants, the selected interns will help ensure a continuity of fundraising excellence for our community.
About the Internship Applicants
Applicants for the paid internships must be enrolled in a college or university at the undergraduate level or a 2010 graduate. They will have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and significant leadership potential in LGBT affairs with an exhibited entrepreneurial ability and interest.
About the stipend
The R. Scott Hitt Foundation will make a $5000 grant to the nonprofit sponsoring organization for the eight week internship period. The actual wage and benefits recieved by the intern will be agreed upon between the intern and their sponsor in order to comply with the sponsor's organizational standards. Any additional salary or benefits afforded to the intern will become the sole responsibility and provision of the sponsoring organization.
About the Host Sposoring Organizations
Interns may work for a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the Southern California geographic region dedicated in whole or in part to the advancement of LGBT equality. The sponsoring organization must have an executive who will sign a contract with the R. Scott Hitt Foundation accepting responsibility for the training of the intern in key functions. An evaluation of the intern will be furnished to the R. Scott Hitt Foundation and A.N.G.L.E. at the conclusion of the internship to assist in our on-going development of the internship program.
