Foundation
Mission

Founded by Dr. R. Scott Hitt, the former Chair of President Clinton's HIV/AIDS Advisory Council and the founder of numerous other organizations, the R. Scott Hitt Foundation strives to advance the development and training of socially conscious individuals interested in becoming the future leaders in gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community activism.
About the Foundation
The goal of the R. Scott Hitt Foundation is to meet the need for individuals from the next generation of leaders to expand and strengthen the rights of the gay and lesbian movement while working to protect the advancements that have already been achieved, which are under constant threat and attack. The R. Scott Hitt Foundation, launched in the summer of 2007, addresses this need by identifying and nurturing individuals to encourage leadership skills and an understanding of the financial development process.
The R. Scott Hitt Foundation internship programs are designed to introduce outstanding, innovative, socially conscious individuals, who are in the educational phase of their lives, to the various aspects of nonprofit organizational work. Through the foundation's internship programs, individuals will learn the skills necessary to participate in the field of gay and lesbian nonprofit advocacy. The scope of work of the intern program (designed by the sponsoring non-profit organization and the intern) are designed to train candidates to follow in our footsteps and lead the way as our community struggles with a shortage of highly skilled future leaders. Our community has a history of taking care of our own and the Foundation is focused on keeping that tradition alive.
